NATO - A Common Commitment
To mark the 60th Anniversary of NATO in 2009, the Atlantic Council of the United Kingdom is producing a major commemorative publication explaining the organisation’s origins and history and analysing its current and prospective structure and strategy.

Entitled NATO’s 60th Anniversary – A Common Commitment, the publication will feature key contributions from NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the Secretary General of the Atlantic Treaty Association Troels Frøling , the Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola and the Joint President of the Atlantic Council Lord Robertson, a former Secretary General of NATO and former UK Secretary of State for Defence.

Core themes addressed in the publication include the composition of NATO’s command structure and the emerging European Security and Defence identity; enlargement policy and partnerships; operations in Afghanistan, the Balkans, Darfur and Iraq; planning, training and force structures and, in particular, equipment inter-operability; and co-operation between defence industries within NATO countries to deliver maximum capability.

Edited by leading defence writer Simon Michel, the publication is being produced on the Atlantic Council’s behalf by Newsdesk Communications Ltd., London for release in early 2009.
